Mutiplex Funjet

Mutiplex Funjet

Well, I had to start somewhere so why not start with my favourite model of all time.

Quick Review

If you want the best of both then this is it. Easy to launch with incredible stability at low speed. The lighter, the more stable at low speed. Multiplex’s recomended power set up is OK but lighter set ups are available with similar performance. Very quick and agile plane with vertical climb outs all the time. NOT FOR BEGINNERS but when you have mastered your Multiplex Easy Star or Twin Star and can fly through soccer goal posts then this is a great next step. This will get the adrenalin going from the first second, yet is very forgiving. You rarely get that “Drop out of the Sky” problem that most delta’s suffer from at low speed making it a great for intermermediate to exprerienced flyers.

Here are the Specs from Multiplex

An agile, easy-to-launch fun model which can accommodate a
wide variety of power systems. The FunJet is tailor-made for upgrading.
It is intended for experienced model fl yers, e.g. pilots who
can handle a TwinJet or similar without problem. The FunJet is
operated by aileron, elevator and throttle controls, so aerobatics,
such as rolls, inverted fl ight, loops etc. are well within its capabilities.
Fast, low passes in formation with 3, 4, 5 or even more
models look simply terrifi c - and the sound is marvellous! Then
chop the throttle and be ready for a surprise - the FunJet glides
in wonderfully slowly under full control to a gentle landing.
• Typical jet-like fl ying characteristics
• Aileron / elevator and throttle controls
• Compact layout for ease of transport
• Screw-fitting motor installation, infinitely variable motor downthrust
• Short building time: no workshop required ELAPOR® construction for an extremely robust airframe

Moulded parts for centre section, outboard wing panels and fi ns,
small items, decals, motor mount with variable downthrust and
comprehensive instructions

Using the Flycamone (early version)

Posted by Martin on March 1st, 2009 under Aerial Photography  •  No Comments

I had some reasonable success with the Flycamone mainly because it is so simple.
It charges from the USB whilst you download the files and is incredibly light and could be used on almost any plane.

Here are some examples on Youtube

What lets this camera down is the resolution. At around 352 x 288 pixels the quality is very rough but it was a good start.

The next project was to try transmitting live video footage to the ground, you will have to see my next post for more information.

Early Days

Posted by Martin on March 1st, 2009 under Aerial Photography  •  No Comments

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to take photos and video using a radio controlled plane.
Many years ago, my first attemp to mount a 35mm camera on a Robbe Skyflex failed due to the fact that the model had to be caught by hand and could not be landed normally and as the battery had ran out, the camera ended up in many pieces.
Things have moved on now and it is much easier to take aerial photography using a radio controlled plane.
I have 2 methods

  • Flycamone (Basically records to SD card)
  • Range video Transmitter (transmits live video recorded to a laptop)
